Opinion: Let children walk to school again
A school run that takes 25 minutes by car would take 12 on foot, if the footpaths were safe.

Every morning, thousands of cars in Lahore carry children a distance most of them could walk in fifteen minutes. The cars then create the traffic that makes walking feel unsafe.
The fix is not complicated. Clear footpaths near schools, a painted crossing with a warden, and a ban on parking within 50 metres of the gate.
Schools that tried a walking route with parent volunteers say the first week was hard and the second was easy. Children arrived calmer and on time.
We spend a lot of energy arguing about school fees and syllabus. We could start with the walk to the gate.
