The bookstall that has stood at the same corner for 40 years
Second-hand textbooks, old digests and a chair for anyone who wants to read before they buy.

The bookstall at the corner near the college gate in Rawalpindi has been there longer than the traffic signal. Its owner opens at nine and closes when the light goes.
Most of what he sells is second-hand: textbooks passed between batches, old digests, poetry collections with someone else's name inside the cover.
“A book is not sold when it leaves the stall. It is sold when someone reads it.”
One chair, no rush
There is one plastic chair beside the stall. Anyone can sit and read for as long as they like. Many buy nothing, he says, and that is fine.
His son now posts new arrivals on a phone, and students message ahead to reserve a book.
