Volt X5 review: the mid-range phone to beat this year
Big battery, clean software and a camera that is good in daylight. The low-light photos are its weak spot.
The Volt X5 is a made-up phone for this sample review, but the questions are the real ones: is the battery good, is the camera honest, and will it still feel quick next year?
Battery life was the highlight. With heavy use, maps, WhatsApp calls and an hour of video, we ended most days with a third left.
Battery first
The main camera is sharp in daylight. In dim rooms it smooths faces and loses detail, so expect softer photos at weddings and dinners.
Verdict

The safe pick in its price range, if you mostly shoot in daylight.
Good
- Two-day battery with light use
- Clean software, few pre-installed apps
- Bright screen outdoors
Not so good
- Soft photos in low light
- Slow charger in the box
