From next month, the busiest streets around the old market in Lahore will have marked, paid parking bays with a two-hour limit. The aim is simple: stop cars from sitting in the same spot all day while shoppers circle the block.

Delivery vans will get a loading window from 7 am to 10 am. After that, vans will have to use two marked loading points at either end of the market.

“Two hours is enough for shopping. It is not enough for parking your car while you work.”

Who gets a permit

Residents with a registered address on the affected streets can apply for a free permit. Shopkeepers will not get permits, which has already caused some complaints from traders who park outside their own shops.

Fines will be issued by wardens with handheld machines, and the first two weeks will be warnings only.
